Aim

This course is designed to meet the requirements of training in the use of the global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS), aimed at captains and deck officers in charge of the navigational watch, on the basis of the Regulation IV/2, Section A-IV/2 and Table A-IV/2 of the Convention STCW´78, as amended and the STCW Code, and the Chapters VII and IX of Radio Regulations of the ITU.

Scope & Objective

To operate efficiently, GMDSS equipment required to be installed in maritime areas A1, A2, A3 and A4, and have primary responsibility for radio communications during emergency, urgency, safety, and routine incidents. Given the serious problems experienced in GMDSS because of the large number of false distress alerts that occur, training will also be provided in techniques to prevent the inadvertent transmission of false distress alerts and the procedures to use to mitigate the effects of false distress alerts after inadvertent transmission.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively participate to the knowledge, understanding and proficiencies established on corresponding to Regulation IV/2, Section A-IV/2 and Table A-IV/2 of the Convention STCW´78, as amended and the STCW Code, and the Chapters VII and IX of Radio Regulations of the ITU.

Entry Standards

  • Being over 18 years.
  • Knowledge of the English language.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of computers.
  • Present a valid medical certificate.

Medical Standard

As per M.S (Medical Examination for seafarers) Rules 2000 as amended from time to time.

Course Certificate

Upon successful completion of the course, the participant must receive a course completion document for "General Operator Certificate for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)”,in accordance with the Regulation IV/2, Section A-IV/2 and Table A-IV/2 of the Convention STCW´78, as amended and the STCW Code, and the Chapters VII and IX of Radio Regulations of the ITU.

Required Attendance

100% attendance is required for successful completion of the Course. However, in exceptional circumstances the relaxation can be given for genuine reasons

Passing Percentage

70 % or Above

Holidays

Sundays & Govt. Holidays

Exam

A test will be conducted on completion of the Course.

Re Exam

The Student will be given two more attempts if score below 70 %. In case if the student fails to get 70 % or above he needs to join the Course as Fresh.

Certificate

After Successfully completion and Passing of Exam, a certificate will be issued to the Student certifying that he has successfully completed the Course.
